Happy New Year!
Let’s start the year off with another one of my great experiences.
Not too long ago, I received a call from my landlord on my personal cell phone. When I saw his name pop up, I thought, “Did my rent check clear the bank, or am I getting evicted?” 🤔
Fortunately, it was neither, I surely overreacted to him calling. He simply was inquiring about painting the exterior brick on some of his older properties in the Atlanta area.
The answer to his question was “Yes”. But ONLY, if the brick is properly prepped, repaired, cleaned and coated with exterior masonry primer. All these steps must be taken seriously, and not skipped before an individual even thinks about applying any paint to the bricked surface. Painting exterior brick has become popular again. If properly painted, its beautiful and gives older homes a modern face-lift, or remodeled homes with multiple types of brick a uniformed look, especially since its nearly impossible to find the exact match for brick of a fifty-year-old home.
During our store’s first year, several customers shared how popular painting brick had become in the area of the store. There is one street that is not too far from the store, its lined with traditional brick fronted ranch styled homes with many of them painted. At first glance, you can immediately see which homes did not complete the necessary prep and priming steps. Unfortunately, there are homes with peeling paint, as a result of moisture issues or the lack of cleaning the brick. There are other homes with the brick one color and the mortar another color. This is a sure sign that masonry primer was not used. All masonry products are porous meaning the brick has spaces or holes through which liquid or air may pass and require a primer that can encapsulate the unpainted surface, helping to create a uniformed finish topcoat to your project.
I am excited to be able to share my knowledge about the importance of these products and applications as we continue to provide quality customer service that will benefit our customers in the long run. We will help build Eastlake and the surrounding areas “brick by brick!”
